Our Churchyard
We have been busy behind the scenes preparing to make some positive changes in the churchyard! Currently much of the churchyard is very difficult and unsafe to for our garden team to maintain, and for visitors to enjoy - this is because over the years the Church of England churchyard regulations haven't been enforced here where they might have been (churchyard challenges are famously really difficult for churches to navigate, not least because of the pastoral dynamic involved).
We have been asked to bring this churchyard into line with the regulations and will be working over coming weeks to do so. You may have seen notices and signs up. A copy of the regulations is always on display in the porch. We understand that this may cause upset to some people where items/ curbs or chipping needs to be removed- do encourage anyone in this position to get in touch with Clare: vicar@stmaryswheatley.org
Our Aim is to make the churchyard a safe and beautiful space for all and to enable our team to maintain and look after it easily and really well.
